Some effortless but effective home remedies for your skin.

home-remediesHome remedies have always been everybody’s favorite as they are inexpensive, available all times, you know all the ingredients of the product who have made so it’s reliable, can be customised as per your requirement and on top of it, it’s fun to experiment and create your own skin care range. Home remedies have also been of significance in earlier days in India and in Egypt.Anyway, let’s start with our home remedies for face, body and skin.

I have categorized the recipes as skin(face) , hair, body and then skin as per the skin type, so it’s easier for you to read and choose (your type) recipe Dance


  • For those who sweat - Add a few drops of Eau de cologne in your bathing water, this will help to reduce body odour to an extent as it has fragrance and it also helps you  keep your body temperature a little cool for longer duration, so the amount of perspiration will also reduce. Sweat 
  • For tanned arms and dark elbows – Mix 1 cup of honey and 1 cup of glycerin and 3-4 tsp of lime juice.You can store this mixture in refrigerator for 5-7 days. Apply  at night and wash next morning , however,  this mixture is a bit sticky so you can also apply it 20 mins prior to bath.
  • Body scrub – Mix some brown sugar(used for cooking, baking) and glycerin, and cocoa powder and make a thick paste. Apply it before your bath and scrub gently, you will find the sugar granules melting slowly. Wash off with warm water.This will give a refreshing effect , has smoothing, moisturizing , anti oxidant properties.
  • Hydrating mask – Mash some banana and mix some fresh cream and honey into it till it forms a paste. Apply it for 20 mins and rinse off with plain water.
  • Take 1 tsp olive oil into a bucket of lukewarm water while bathing, to prevent drying of skin, specially in winters.


  • Oily skin -

a) Cleanser – Mix a few drops of  lemon juice and honey,add yeast till it forms a thick paste.Apply on face for 2 mins and then rub gently with damp hands and rinse off. Can do it daily.

b)Mask – Take grated potato juice and multani mati (fuller’s earth)1 tsp each.Apply and keep for 10 mins. or till it dries. Rinse off with plain water.Do it once a  week .

c) Scrub – Take   1 tbsp yeast, yogurt 1.5 tsp, lemon juice 1 tsp, carrot juice 1 tsp. Apply and keep for 15 mins ( do not use on acne).Rinse off with plain water.Do it once a week.
  • Normal/Combination skin -

a)Cleanser – Mix oatmeal with milk and add little honey to it. Make a paste, apply for 5 mins.Gently rub it. Rinse off with plain water.Can be done daily
b) Mask – Add cocoa powder and milk.Apply a thick paste all over the face , keep it for 15 mins.Rinse off with plain water.Cocoa has lots anti oxidants so is not only good for skin but also good for health.Apply once a week.
c) Scrub –  Take oatmeal, dried orange peel powder and cold cream( cosmetic) 2 tbsp each.Mix and apply, let it dry for a while, exfoliate with wet hands,rinse off with cold water.can be done once a week.  OR
Take oatmeal and almond oil,  1 tbsp each, mix well. Apply for 15 mins, rinse off after scrubbing.Can be done once a week.
  • Dry skin -

a) Cleanser – Aloe vera gel is a natural scrub/ cleanser for dry skin. Take 1 tbsp of aloe gel, apply all over the face keep it for 10 mins and rinse off with plain water. Can be done daily.
b) Mask – Mix cocoa and glycerin and form a thick paste,then add a few drops of honey into it. Apply and keep for 15 mins ,then rinse face with plain water. Apply once a week. Clap
c) Scrub -  Oatmeal 2 tbsp,buttermilk 2-3 tbsp,1 tbsp of almond oil.Mix and apply for 15 mins, scrub with damp hands, rinse off with plain water.Can be done once a week.

Remedies for different concerns

  • Acne – Mix some neem and tulsi pulp. Apply on acne leave it for a while and wash off with plain water.
  •  Patchy skin – Oatmeal and milk powder 1 tbsp each n lemon juice  2 tbsp. Keep for 15 mins,  rinse off with plain water.Can be done once a week.   OR – Mash 100 grams strawberries, milk powder 2 tbsp, lemon juice 1 tsp.Keep for 15 mins,  rinse off with plain water.Can be done once a week.
  • Tanned face – Mix a little papaya pulp  with some oatmeal to make a thick paste and add a few drops of  honey to it.Apply on face, keep it for 15 mins. Scrub it with damp hands. Rinse off with plain water.Can be done once a week.
  • Toner ( for all skin types) – Cucumber i a natural toner. Dab cucumber juice on face after cleansing or before you leave the house, to venture in the sun. Big Smile
  • Dark circles – Use grated  and refrigerated cucumber instead of cucumber slices. OR – Mix some fresh cream and few drops of honey with some drops cucumber and potato juice.
  • Blackheads - After bathing, rub a Turkish towel gently on the nose, where you have black heads.Then apply ice or chilled cucumber juice on that area. Can be done twice a week.
  • Ingrown hair after waxing - Mix apricot powder and fresh cream  for ingrown hair and smooth arm after wax. Apply when the hair starts its regrowth.


  • After shampoo, wash hair with few drops of lime squeezed in some water for shiny , oil free hair. Wink
  •  After shampooing, towel dry hair and apply mayonnaise. Keep for 15 mins and rinse off with plain water. Mayonnaise acts as a natural conditioner and gives good hydration to dry hair.
  • Add 1 tsp of water and 1 drop of oil . Apply to shampooed and semi dry hair,it acts as a very good serum and helps to manage frizzy hair. Beauty
  • Apply neem paste on scalp after shampooing, for lice and dandruff with some drops camphor and olive oil into it.

Some internal remedies -

  • Consume laxatives once a week or once a fortnight but always consult a physician first. Pill Similarly
  • You can take de – worm tablets, but again it is important to consult your doctor first. Stop
  • Drink lots of water, juices, and eat loads of  fruits and  salads for good health and skin.
