Chemical peel is a type of cosmetic procedure in which certain solutions are applied to the face, hands, and neck by a qualified aesthetician. They are used to improve the appearance and texture of the skin. chemical solutions will be applied on the skin of the concerned areas, which causes the skin to exfoliate and peel off subsequently. the new skin formed from underneath is often smoother, less wrinkled, and radiant with a glow

There are three types of chemical peels

• Superficial peels, which use mild acids to gently exfoliate the outermost skin layer.
• Medium peels, which use TCA or Glycolic acids in moderate concentrations to reach the middle and outer layer of skills.
• Deep peels, which penetrate into the deeper dermis and are rarely used. TCA in higher concentrations and Phenol solutions are used for the deep peels

Chemical peels are usually done as an OP procedure in an aesthetic clinic
.Consent will be taken before the procedure. face will be cleaned, and eyes are protected with goggles or soft gauze and hair is tied back or a surgical cap is kept.
Topical anesthesia is not required except in deep peels
peel solution is applied systematically over the face covering all the areas with a brush or a guaze. there will be some stinging or burning sensation for short period of about 15 to 20 minutes. Some peels like salicylic will require neutralizing solutions as second step and certain peels like mandelic can be left as stay-on.

1. Superficial Peels

penetrate only the upper layers of the skin. Agents used are mild acids like AHA 


 done for Mild acne, blackheads & whiteheads, fine wrinkles, dry and dull skin, minimal sun damage. there won’t be any pain except for a  mild tingling sensation.

 Virtually there is no down time though you might be a little reddish often with the bits of flaky skin.

 Low concentrations of glycolic acids and lactic acids are used. 6 to 10 sessions are given in weekly intervals


2. Medium Depth Peels

 Acne, wrinkles, acne scars, photo or sun damage, age spots, and hyperpigmentation

 The skin will be red for a day or two and then show crusts and peel off during the downtime of 7 to 10 days. 

Peeling Agents:  TCA, glycolic acid, or Jessner’s solution

6 sessions with 10 days interval each

3. Deep Peels not usually done. downtime is 4 to 6 weeks.
